A Happy-Sad Motorola Experience
There is no doubt that mobile phones have become part of a new culture in every part of the word in terms of how they complement our daily lives especially through communication and also through the entertainment that they provide to us. I admit that mobile phones have evolved and come up from a long distance, though quiet fast.
There’s a phone that I had that was given to me as a present when I was joining college. It was the Motorola V3 and had been launched the previous year but was still so popular and stylish. I always remember the moments both fun and embarrassing that it brought to me.
At that time, Motorola was a real brand to associate with, so was Nokia, but this slim phone from Motorola was like no other made me a darling in my freshman year at college. All the friends that I mad really admired it and I always wanted to make them jealous. I always wanted them to think of me as a tech geek and this made me do the most stupid thing ever.
It happened that we had an inter-schools games tournament hosted by our college and the arriving teams had some beautiful cheerleaders that I wanted to hit on. The strength of my pride as usual came from the sleek and rare phone which only a few were privileged to own and this was what I was to use to prove to these girls that I was someone of substance.
Therefore after lunch break, my friends and I went hunting for these girls as we waited for the competitions to resume. Being me, the pimp, I was I was first to show a group of some girls the real side of me. This was the mistake that they I made.
Though we stayed with them for some time, they showed no interest and we decided to leave them and go hunting for more girls and before we left, we were quick to show them that they were a bit ‘old’ for us.
I never thought that this could have angered them much but when the competitions resumed and my school was playing with a team from a rival school, these cheerleaders arrived and some carrying placards with cartoons and caricatures about the ‘tech geek’. All attention was now drawn to me and throughout the matched they cheered the rival team telling them to so these ‘geeks’ what really life was all about.
The embarrassment became too much and I had to sneak away but not before a got a new nick name. They named me “Haro Geese”, a name that was used to embarrass me till I finally graduated four years later.
